Nata in Inghilterra dall’iniziativa delle principali squadre di calcio che militano in Premier, la campagna “Social Media Boycott” contraddistinta dall’hashtag #StopOnlineAbuse, si pone l’obiettivo di sensibilizzare il grande pubblico contro tutti i tipi di discriminazioni che avvengono sui social network. E per farlo, molte federazioni sportive e sportivi illustri spegneranno i propri profili Facebook, Twitter e Instagram dalle ore 15 del 30 aprile alle 23.59 del 3 maggio.
Non si tratta di una protesta contro i social network ma a favore di un utilizzo responsabile e corretto di quest’ultimi. I social diventano così uno strumento fortissimo per veicolare un messaggio positivo e di denuncia contro il razzismo e le discriminazioni in tutte le sue forme.
Tra le federazioni sportive e gli sportivi celebri che aderiscono alla campagna, troviamo le federazioni calcistiche Premier League, FIGC, Liga spagnola, Major League Soccer, Uefa, le squadre di calcio inglesi Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Leicester City, Birmingham City, Southampton FC, Crystal Palace, West Ham United, Leeds United, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United, i calciatori Lionel Messi, Alvaro Moratam Harry Kane, Kai Havertz, Bruno Fernandes, Wayne Rooney, Alan Shearer, i piloti di Formula Uno Lewis Hamilton e Charles Leclerc, i tornei di tennis Wimbledon e Roland Garros e tanti altri..
In molti comunicati dei partecipanti, si legge: “Scendiamo in campo contro gli abusi on line a tutti i protagonisti del mondo dello sport. Il messaggio forte contro ogni forma di discriminazione lanciato dall’Inghilterra è stato prontamente raccolto: la campagna mira a sollevare un tema di responsabilità collettiva da affrontare in collaborazione con le istituzioni politiche europee e con i gestori delle piattaforme di social network più diffusi e influenti in tutto il pianeta.
L’odio, la mancanza di rispetto verso il prossimo, la discriminazione di genere o di etnia, l’abuso verbale sono quanto di più lontano dallo spirito dello sport e per questo li vogliamo combattere“.
